Andy visits Marcy's Kitchen in Gillette, New Jersey. Mexican kitchen connoisseurs Marcela “”Marcy”” Navarrete and Hector Jimenez have been serving both quality interpretations of classic dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food.
Marcy's Kitchen interior, designed as a reflection of a kitchen in Puebla, Mexico, reflects the comfortable sensibilities of a home cooked meal while also paying tribute to Puebla's artisanal storied past. The humble take-out restaurant offers the choice to observe passersby of Valley Road, or watch the art of cooking as it occurs in the dream restaurant of Marcela and Hector.

Local ties: We’ve lived in New Providence for the past 30 years. Our two sons went to Salt Brook and Roberts Elementary school, stayed at St. Luke’s Day Care, went through New Providence High School. Hector started his painting business and provided painting jobs all over the area. Marcela worked in New Providence (mostly at DataOnline) for 30 years until opening Marcy’s Kitchen. Hector, Carlos and Julian still play soccer at the New Providence Men’s Soccer club (Hector was invited 25 years back and then brought Carlos and Julian to play when they were big enough to play with the men)
Social causes: It’s nice to see a variety of neighbors come in and be happy about the food. In particular, we’re happy to serve the Long Hill Fire Department and Police Squad of Berkeley Heights. Long Hill Officer Jeff was one of our first customers and his donated dollar is still on our wall.
Best moment as a business owner: When clients come in and say they are so happy that we are open.
Best advice ever received: Never lose the authenticity of your recipes and food.
Favorite activity in New Jersey: Watching the boys playing soccer and supporting the soccer clubs.
